Everywhere I look, the holiday season is upon us. Retail stores are prepping for Christmas shopping. Holiday catalogs are arriving in the mail. Blogs are posting new Christmas inspiration. Pinterest is full of crafts and recipes to try! But I try not to rush the season here on the blog, when possible. So I’d like to linger and celebrate the feeling of Fall, just a little while longer. Which happens to be a pretty easy task when you have a spectacular Autumn cake to swoon over!
With deep rich tones and a soft feminine flair, today’s cake is an elegant spin on the colors of fall. And you’re going to love it! Shades of grey fade to a shimmery purple. An abundance of sugar blossoms create a delicate, ruffle-like appearance.  A short but sweet top tier showcases a single rose. Oh my goodness! It’s a stunning cake covered in Autumn Blooms, created by Allison Kelleher, owner of AK Cake Design in Portland.

Gorgeous!! Just gorgeous! I love the subtle color variance in the blooms and the soft shimmer. It pairs so nicely with the orange pumpkins (which would be a fun fall centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table). Let’s get a better look…

Allison of AK Cake Design tells us about her design:
“I was asked to make a purple cake for a Fall/Halloween shoot and was completely stumped until I watched a movie about one of my favorite artists, Andy Goldsworthy, called ‘Rivers and Tides.’ There wasn’t a particular image in the movie that directly inspired me; it was more the idea of creating something unexpected in nature. A tangle of black blossoms with bright spots of purple seemed to fit the bill – a little brooding, and at the same time, it paired so nicely with the sweet flower ‘pumpkin’ sitting nearby. I made black and gray blossoms and dusted them with black, purple, and white petal dust.”

I absolutely adore those blossoms! So dainty. So delicate. So spectacular! Can’t you just envision this cake at an elegant fall wedding?
Thank you, thank you to Allison of AK Cake Design for sharing her lovely Autumn Blooms Cake with us today! It’s abundant with beauty!
