Oceanside Beach Beauty

May 2, 2012 by Carrie Sellman

The deep blue waters of the ocean.  A pale blue sky.  An impeccably tailored white-on-white textured cake.  I so want to dive, head first, right into this gorgeousness!  Today’s featured cake comes to us from Melissa of Buttercream Couture and it is simply fabulous!  I’m talking spend-the-afternoon-at-the-yacht-club kind of fabulous! It’s elegant, modern and and makes me want to sail off into the sunset… with a slice of cake!  From the layers of overlapping fondant bands to the fantasy flowers, everything about this four-tiered wedding cake is delightful.  Let’s bask in the glow of this Oceanside Beach Beauty.

Melissa from Buttercream Couture shared a little background about her design:

“The cake was made for a stylized sailboat photo shoot.  I was asked to participate and given an inspiration board, a very pale colour palette and four key words that encompassed the feel of the shoot.  I didn’t know what any of the other vendors involved were providing.  I hadn’t spent more then two minutes on the phone with anyone creatively involved and I had less then a week to pull it together.  So it was a real challenge.  There were so many avenues I could have taken but ultimately I went with what I love.  I love texture over colour.  I love softness.  I love contrasts.  I tailored my loves to suit the key words (which were sleek, modern, luxurious and rich in case you were curious).”

Oh, be still my heart!  It doesn’t get much better than a spectacular cake with a breath-taking view!

I just want to sit there and drink and eat and look! Absolutely breathtaking. The texture is amazing and so do the flowers.

I LOVE it!! It completely reminds me of my wedding gown which was architectural layers of silk chiffon.
