Summer Sunshine Cake

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine… we sing this song all the time in my house!  It is one of my daughter’s favorites and why not?  You can’t help but smile and feel good when singing it!  As soon as I saw today’s featured cake,  I felt the same way.  Bright, sunshiny happy!  With it’s rustic buttercream in shades of yellow from dark to light, extra tall tiers, single peony bloom and simplistic beauty… it will have you smiling (and possibly singing) too!  Lets bask in the warm glow of this Summer Sunshine Cake, created by Tessa of The Frosted Cake Shop.

Tessa from The Frosted Cake Shop shares some thoughts about her design:

“To me, this design embodies summer with its sunny yellow palette and statement flower.   I used a classic buttercream and my favorite off-set spatula to create the fluffy texture and yellow ombre effect.  To top it off, I hand-crafted a single, giant peony out of gumpaste.

I love the versatility of this design.  Switch up the color palette or change out the flower to coordinate with any celebration.   I feel this design is whimsical enough for a child’s birthday, yet chic enough for a bridal shower or wedding.”

From the cheerful yellow ombre to the swirled buttercream, this cake has relaxed beauty that is perfect for any summer event.  Birthday, shower or wedding!  This cake could be dressed up or down to fit with almost any occasion.  Wouldn’t it be lovely on a rustic wood table… surrounded by lemon desserts and tall pitchers of lemonade?  Ohhh yes!
