Real Party: Sock Monkey Shower

February 2, 2011 by Carrie Sellman

It’s been almost a year since my love affair with sock monkeys first began.  Do you remember the KIA commercial from last year’s Super Bowl – the one that featured life size versions of the Yo Gabba Gabba gang and a sock monkey?  Well, my husband was infatuated with that commercial!  My favorite part was the sock monkey.  The rest is history.  Over the past year I’ve seen many sock monkey parties…. but this one is truly exceptional.

Today’s Real Party is an adorable Sock Monkey Baby Shower hosted by Elizabeth Seaton of Posh Paperie and her mother.  In honor of the mom-to-be, Karrie Pyke (also of Posh Paperie), this modern yet vintage shower is just too cute for words.  Stripes, polka dots and argyle mixed with sock monkeys riding in miniature “radio flyer” red wagons… what could be more charming than that?

Elizabeth shared some of the details of this shower with us….

“For Karrie’s baby shower, we wanted to do something different – not just the typical baby blue and white for a little boy. Karrie fell in love with the idea of sock monkeys… and that was the catalyst for the entire shower. Our color scheme mimicked the vintage sock monkey design (tan, chocolate brown, bright red and white) – and we also added in a cute stripe pattern and an argyle. The invitations set the tone for the event – and we carried the color scheme and theme throughout the entire party.

More of the shower details from Elizabeth….

“We served tomato soup in red and white mugs, and also had several homemade salads for the guests to choose from. We offered a variety of drinks, including strawberry soda and root beer, and sparkling cider in a sock monkey wine cover! Even the cute paper straws were red and white stripe and polka dot. We had a candy bar (of course, all red and brown candy) and amazing cupcakes from the San Diego Bakery “Cake” (red velvet or banana).

The table decor included a custom “sock monkey” runner that we had created, miniature “radio flyer” red wagons with sock monkeys sitting inside, and red gerbera daisies in mason jars. For paper goods, we designed a “welcome” sign that hung on a wreath on the door, tent folds for the candy bar, treat bags, a darling “Frankie’s mommy” sign for Karrie’s chair, game sheets and a “Franklin” custom banner. We had so much fun planning the party… and we loved celebrating Karrie and Franklin!”

A huge thank you to Elizabeth for sharing this delightful Sock Monkey Baby Shower with us!  And congrats to Karrie on the birth of her son Franklin!  You can see more of their lovely invitations and paper products on the Posh Paperie website and blog.

Erin – I believe the talented ladies at Posh Paperie made the banner.

Debbie – I’ve seen argyle wrapping paper at Hallmark but it’s been a little while. There’s always a good selection of unique wrapping paper at The Container Store as well.
