Precious Petals Baptism Cake

April 23, 2012 by Carrie Sellman

We’re starting off the week with a darling little cake that’s blooming with beauty.  Soft pastels and stunning sugar flowers combine to capture the pure essence of Spring.  Created for a baptism, this delicate gem would be perfect for a number of family milestones.  It’s easily suited for a christening, first communion or confirmation.  That in itself is a rare find!  Not to mention…  it’s down right delightful!  Take a look at this Precious Petals Baptism Cake created by Joanna Duffy of Torta.

Baptism or 1st Communion Cake

Joanna from Torta shared a few thoughts about the inspiration for her cake design:

“I absolutely love spring flowers and the colours associated with it, so picking a colour theme and design to go with the flowers was a no brainer.  I wanted the cake to be quite soothing and I love beautiful delicate flowers and I think there is nothing more apt for a christening cake.”

The delicate frame makes this cake so versatile.  Swap out the message and this design works for so many occasions.  Wouldn’t it be gorgeous for Mother’s Day?  Joanna shared a few tips with us on how she created this frame:

“The frame was cut out of gum paste and had a cocktail stick inserted at the base.  Once it was dry, I outlined it with royal icing, much like you would a cookie and then filled it in with yellow royal icing.  I used some fondant on the board in front of the cake to hold the frame and then covered the base with a selection of sugar flowers.”

Whether for a baptism or christening, Mother’s Day or a baby shower, this cake would have them swooning.  From the gorgeous sugar flowers to the striped pastel band, it is a work of pure beauty.  A huge thank you to Joanna of Torta for sharing her Precious Petals Baptism Cake with us today.  It is lovely!
