From Dress… to Cake

July 9, 2012 by Carrie Sellman

We talk about inspiration day after day because, well…  this blog is meant to inspire you!  Whether we get a peek at the hand drawn sketches or a few thoughts shared by the baker, I love exploring the inspiration behind a cake.  The best is when we can truly see the inspiration become cake reality, like in today’s post.  Shannon Star and her team at Layered Bake Shop turned a gorgeous bridal gown into an incredibly gorgeous cake!  With folds of silk, layers of fluffy tulle, and a delicate pink sash, this dress is swoon-worthy inspiration.  Join me as we go from beautiful bridal dress…. to a delightfully textured Silk & Tulle Wedding Cake.

Isn’t it just lovely!  Just wait until you see both the dress and the cake, side by side.  This is the actual bride in her amazing bridal gown… and her spectacular cake!

Shannon from Layered Bake Shop shared a few thoughts about her design:

“This cake was designed straight from the bridal gown itself.  It was absolutely gorgeous and Cameron looked stunning in it!  I carved the silk folds into the buttercream, replicated her belt by sculpting sugar flowers and created texture to match her tulle skirt.  We loved the idea of have a three cake set up instead of traditionally one large cake.  It is one of my favorites and uniquely one of a kind!”

I love the different textures in this design.  From the carved silk folds in the buttercream to the “tulle” textured top and bottom, this cake is beautiful translation of the bride’s dress!  And because three cakes are better than one… this charming display included two coordinating side cakes.  With a burlap table runner, wooden box stands and lace overlays, the entire cake table is so soft and elegant.

A very special thank you to Shannon at Layered Bake Shop for sharing her ultra feminine and elegant Silk & Tulle Wedding Cake with us today!  We’re in love!
