Glam Pink & Black Cake

August 24, 2012 by Carrie Sellman

Today’s cake is all about the glam!  With a sassy pink and black color combo and rows upon rows of ruffled petals.  Pink on pink stenciling defines the top tiers with a blooming rose pattern which is subtle yet striking.  Add a small touch of sparkle and you have one FAB-ulous cake!  Created for a surprise 60th birthday party, this cake celebrated ‘another year of fabulous’!  What a wonderful sentiment for any birthday celebration!  It’s a Glamorous Pink & Black Birthday Cake, created by by Althea Heussner of Bakermama!

Althea of Bakermama shares the story behind this cake:

“I was commissioned by Jess Rigby to make a cake for her mother’s surprise 60th birthday party.  Not only was the party a surprise, but it was also a surprise that all of children and grandchildren were flying to town (we live on the island of Kodiak Alaska) to surprise her at the party as well.  Jess spoke so highly of her mother when we talked, it was absolutely darling.  In one email conversation, she wrote “My mom is a wonderful fun-loving dynamic, strong woman with a great lease on life”.  She also must have used the word “fabulous” over a dozen times, so of course, the cake HAD to be fabulous.”

Althea of Bakermama share more about her design and techniques:

“Jess’s only request (besides it being fabulous, of course) was that I use pink, black & “lots of bling” in my design.  My head is constantly over-flowing with ideas and techniques I want to use on on cakes but am rarely allowed so much creative freedom.  Therefor this cake consists of the three design elements I’ve been dying to use the most – ruffles (I channeled my inner Fondant Flinger, a dear friend of mine who loves ruffles more than anyone I know), the camilla rose stencil from Designer Stencils that I’ve just been aching to use, and bling from Sugar Delites.”

This design would work for so many special occasions!  Anything from a glam bridal shower to a Barbie birthday party… and everything in between!  Any celebration where fabulous girls are involved!

A big thanks to Thea of Bakermama for sharing this incredible Glamorous Pink & Black Birthday Cake with us today.  It certainly is FAB-ulous!

Gorgeous! I love the idea of putting the black ribbon behind the stone ribbon. That is one idea I will have to borrow! The birthday girl must have been delighted!!

This cake was a huge hit! After all of the oo-ing and ah-ing came the yummy eating. Three layers – carrot, vanilla coconut, and chocolate caramel – each one more delicious than the other. This was truly the most beautiful cake I’ve ever seen!
