Robot Birthday Cake

August 10, 2012 by Carrie Sellman

Today’s cake is so ridiculously adorable, prepare to be smitten!  It includes all of the little details you expect in a cake… like nuts and bolts and gears and metallics!  It’s a charming cross between the oh-so-popular steampunk trend and good old robot fun.  Created for a man who enjoys building robots out of scrap metal, this birthday cake features all aspects of his hobby.  From ‘metal sheets’ of fondant and hand-shaped gears to the incredible robot topper.  Just wait until you see this little guy!  He’s holding a mini-mini cupcake and he’s going to steal your heart!  Join me in oohing and awing over another spectacular creation by Yeni Monroy and her team at Dream Day Cakes®!  It’s a fabulously modern Robot Birthday Cake.

Fred from Dream Day Cakes shared a few thoughts with us about this design:

For her husband’s (Alberto) birthday, one of our favorite clients wanted to create a special cake.  Alberto loves building robots out of scrap junk, and she thought a cake highlighting his hobby would hit the spot.

Yeni created a two tiered topsy-turvy cake with a gear/pipe style.  One of my favorite parts of this cake is the fondant “wood” base.  It’s one of my favorite things she does and I thought it contrasted with the metals perfectly.  Of course, I’m very biased. =)

The gears were all hand-shaped, as well as the robot, name, etc.  The cake itself had different patterns and shades, simulating a metallic siding or paneling.

Of course, the robot needed that small splash of color in his birthday cupcake. =)

For real, look at this charming robot topper!  He’s offering you a cupcake and his smile is completely infectious!  I absolutely LOVE him!

From top to bottom, this cake is phenomenal!  With every photo, I see something new and fabulous to love.  Seriously, go back and look at the photos again!  Yeni’s cakes are so meticulous and her attention to detail is amazing.  Not to mention incredibly creative.  The more you look, the more you’ll love this cake!

A huge thanks to Yeni and Fred at Dream Day Cakes® for sharing this charming Robot Birthday Cake with us today!   Happy Friday everyone!!

Yeni and Fred are creative geniuses! Working from a nebulous idea I had, they delivered above and beyond anything I could have dreamed of for a cake design. The most amazing thing? It tasted GREAT! We are addicted to the homemade from scratch taste of real ingredients. Thank you for being SO AWESOME!
