6th Cake of Christmas

December 13, 2012 by Carrie Sellman

I hope you’re enjoying the month of December here on the blog!  So much holiday fun from the fabulous KitchenAid Mixer Giveaway to the Free Printable Baking Chart featured yesterday.  But now it’s time to get back to the cakes.  The holiday inspiration continues with our newest cake series, The 12 Cakes of Christmas!  We’re celebrating twelve days of beautifully festive cakes, created especially to inspire you to holiday greatness!  Twelve talented bakers were asked to create innovative and elegant cake designs appropriate for both Christmas parties and winter weddings.  And along the way, we get an up close look at what inspires this talented group.  It’s 12 bakers baking…. it’s The 12 Cakes of Christmas!

The sixth cake in our series comes to us from Rachael Teufel, owner of Intricate Icings Cake Design in Erie, Colorado.  Rachael has been inspiring us with her beautiful cakes for years now (like this vintage birdcage trio and this tangerine and turquoise tango).  Rachael is a big fan of transforming fashion into fabulous cake designs.  And well, we’re big fans of both Rachael and her fashion-inspired cakes!  So it goes without saying that we’re always thrilled to see what she has up her sleeve.  Sophisticated and chic.  It’s the 6th Cake of Christmas!

Rachael transforms the glamor of the fashion runway into a dazzling cake design worthy of its own catwalk.  Inspired by this gorgeous Jenny Packham gown, Rachael’s sensational creation captures the sparkle of Christmas season.  If there’s ever a time for a twinkling layer of sequins, it’s the holidays!  Shimmering sequins illuminate a delicately piped ‘stitching’ pattern which gracefully flows across the entire cake.  It is exquisite!  And it’s about time for you to see it…

Sparkling and oh-so-spectacular!  The intricate stitching pattern, which would make any seamstress proud, is embellished with countless light-catching details.  With a single statement-making flower, the glitz and the glam of the holiday season has arrived!

Rachael of Intricate Icings shares more about her inspiration:

“When posed with the question of what inspires you most… Fashion is always my first choice.  I was drawn to this beautiful Jenny Packham “damask” gown for its stunning embellishments, giving this gown a vintage Hollywood feel.  The gowns “bling” factor makes me think of a winter scene full of glistening snow and dangling icicles, perfect for a winter wedding.”

Rachael of Intricate Icings talks about her technique:

“The cake was covered in white chocolate fondant and adorned with hand piped lines to mimic the design on the gown.  These piped details were then painted silver and accented with non-edible crystals and rhinestones.  A single white sugar peony was placed on top.”

As striking as the inspirational gown, this cake is perfectly polished and fit for the holidays.  Let’s enjoy one more strut down the runway, shall we?

A special thank you to Rachael of  Intricate Icings Cake Design for inspiring us with her shimmering sequins and stitching!  And to Revert Imaging for the incredible photography!

We’re officially at the half-way mark for The 12 Cakes of Christmas!  If you missed any of these gorgeous cakes, you can see them all HERE.  And if you haven’t entered our current KitchenAid Mixer Giveaway… what are you waiting for?  Enter HERE now!

I love how fashion inspired this cake and how the first two tiers mimic the top of the dress. The sugar peony is gorgeous and adds a nice touch to the cake.
