Preppy Nautical Cake

February 26, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

It might still be winter, but our forecast includes bright skies and calm waters.  The perfect conditions to set sail!  Today’s featured cake is so full of nautical goodness, it will have you longing for the crash of ocean waves and the crisp sea air.  Created by Tessa Lindow Huff of Style Sweet CA, this cake is after our water-loving hearts.  The classic red, white and blue color scheme gets a charming update with an unexpected touch of pink and Tiffany blue.  While bold stripes and playful polka dots meet a flag banner that is ridiculously adorable.  Not to mention the inventive bottom tier with it’s ripples of scallops and petite blue bow.  All resting on a perfectly-paired, ruffle cake stand.  So hop on board as we take a tour of this incredibly cute, Preppy Nautical Cake!

Tessa Huff gives us the scoop on her design:

“This 3-tier cake is preppy chic- perfect for a birthday or baby shower.  I wanted to create something fun and fresh with a nautical touch.  The hot pink and Tiffany blue off-set the classic red, white, and blue- giving a more modern, whimsy feel.  I love the playful patterns in the bunting and especially the detail of the bottom tier.  I was inspired by the chevron trend and gave it a new twist with scallops instead of zig-zags.”

Oh my goodness!  This cake is bright ray of sunshine!  I completely agree with Tessa that it would be perfect for many different occasions… from birthday to baby shower.  Because what event isn’t better with an incredible cake full of color and cheer?

A special thank you to Tessa of Style Sweet CA for sharing her delightfully Preppy Nautical Cake with us today!  We are definitely smitten!
