Vintage Cameo Cake

March 8, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

Can you hear that whisper in the background?  It’s today’s feature, quietly charming you with its old world romance.  And well, with its antique flair and timeless elegance, there’s simply no reason to resist.   Vintage silhouettes adorn a delicate frame, recreating a gorgeous cameo directly pulled from the wedding invitation.  Delicate scrolls of flowers and swirls form a lace-like pattern that is simply stunning.  And seriously swoonworthy.  Prepare to get lost in the classic beauty of this Vintage Cameo Cake.  Created by Rachael Teufel, of Intricate Icings Cake Design in Erie, Colorado.

Rachael of Intricate Icings shares the inspiration for this cake:

“When client’s come to us with such amazing inspiration, it’s hard not to use it. In this case, our couple had an amazing Vintage, old world invitation designed for them. I fell in love with the cameo piece, as well as the delicate lace-like scroll pattern. We opted to use the cake as the “Something Blue” at the wedding and tied in the blush flowers to pair with their overall color scheme.”

Rachael of Intricate Icings gives us the scoop on her technique:

“The cameo was hand cut from modeling chocolate and adorned with blue cameos of the bride and groom. We used both piped and hand painted techniques to create the scroll detailing with the addition of tiny chocolate roses for depth. At the bottom of each tier was a piped graduated bead border using three different tip sizes. This cake became a stunning focal point to their dessert table comprised of cupcakes and cake pops.”

That is nothing less than a work of art. Really reminiscent of Wedgewood pottery.
