Purple Anemone Cake

May 23, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

If you’re a regular reader, you already know how much I love a gorgeous cake stand.  A pretty pedestal is the ultimate accessory for any cake design and it can make or break your entire look.  And honestly, can you ever have too many?  Ummm, let me think for a millisecond…   Nope.  You can never have too many cake stands!  Which made the launch of the new Simply Stunning Collection from Sarah’s Stands news definitely worth noting.

And if you’ve been reading for awhile, you know that I’m a huge fan of Rachel Skvaril, owner of Fondant Flinger in New Orleans.  Rachel continually wows us and we’re always up for a little swooning when it comes to her lovely creations (like this one, and this one here).  So when Rachel was asked to design a cake inspired by a striking purple pedestal from Sarah’s Stands new line… it was a match made in heaven.  Today’s feature brings together a cake with its perfect complement – an incredible stand.

Rachel of Fondant Flinger gives us the scoop on this cake:

“When I first opened my box from Sarah, I was elated!  I’m talking, giggling and jumping kind of elation too.  I adored the purple color, the sleek design and that incredible shine from the carbon steel.  Initially I wanted to do bold color on the cake but eventually scrapped that design and decided to try and match that brilliant purple with an accent piece.  I wanted Sarah’s stand to be the focus of the attention and therefore, went with an all white cake with white detail work.”

Rachel of Fondant Flinger talks about her technique:

“Two tiers were completed with delicate white flowers and I did a wrap texture on the other two.  I had seen other decorators do the flower covered tiers but really as inspiration for those layers, I worked from a dress I found on Pinterest.  I kept that cake simple in its entirety so that the flower and the stand would really stand out.  I went with a version of a purple anemone as my inspiration.  After I had formed the flower, I painted it with various burgundies, whites, and violets until I got the petals to replicate the stand’s color.  I dusted the center of the anemone with some black and yellow petal dust to finish it off.”

Are you kidding me with this flower? It is absolutely stunning! And it definitely warrants another close up shot. Let’s see if we can get an even better look at this gorgeous bloom…

Talk about wow-worthy white on white!  The soft texture of the petal-covered bottom tier is amazingly romantic.  Coupled with the pop of the purple stand and that breathtaking purple amemone, it’s simply spectacular!

A special thank you to Rachel Skvaril of Fondant Flinger for sharing her gorgeous Purple Amemone Cake with us today!  And contratulations to Sarah’s Stands on the launch of their new Simply Stunning Collection!

What a stunning cake! The stand and flower create such a striking effect against the white cake and at the same time the cake still looks soft and delicate, just spectacular! The anemone flower itself is a piece of art!

What a stunning cake, flower, and cake stand. The flower is gorgeous and looks even more real as you get closer to it. And I just love white/white cakes. Also, everytime I admire a stand, it turns out to be Sarah’s – I need to get my hands on some of them.
