In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Cake Blog is going pink! For an entire week, we’ll take a break from the Fall and Halloween inspiration to celebrate with pink. To remember, honor and support all of those who’s lives have been touched by breast cancer.
In the United States, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Around the world, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of women each year. Sometimes I think it’s easy to get lost in the statistics, but those numbers represent women just like you and me. Our mothers. Our daughters. Our sisters. Our friends. And my hope is that this week, filled to the brim with girly-girl pink, will remind you of the importance of breast screenings and early detection. And perhaps, even inspire you to take a stand and join the fight to find a cure.
So we’re starting off with a gorgeous cake that’s gone pink, from top to bottom. With a fabulous spin on the traditional awareness ribbon, today’s cake includes a spectacular pink bow with modern loops and a little touch of sparkle. Made in loving memory, it comes to us from Erica O’Brien, owner of Erica O’Brien Cake Design located in Hamden, CT.
Erica O’Brien shares the inspiration for her design:
“This cake has special meaning to me. Last year, I lost a good friend to breast cancer, and I designed this cake in her honor. She was a sister, friend, wife, daughter, and mother to two young children. If seeing this cake reminds just one woman to check herself or get checked for breast cancer, it’s worth it.”
A very special thank you to Erica O’Brien for sharing this perfectly pink cake with us today. The delicate texture is seriously fabulous and that bow is simply out of this world. But the meaning behind this cake is absolutely the most important detail. It’s truly an honor to feature this cake today.
You can learn more about early detection and screenings at the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Hop on over to create your own early detection plan today. And help us spread awareness all week by sharing, pinning and tweeting all of the pink beauties to come.
