You better hold on to your hat because today’s cake may just blow you away. You know when something is utterly and completely beautiful but yet totally unexpected and therefore it’s even more incredible? Well, that is today’s cake in a nutshell. Created for a wedding shoot showcasing the rustic romance of Colorado, it’s a bohemian treasure. Filled with leather and feathers! Yes, this gorgeously earthy design features a single sugar feather and the most amazing leather belts you can imagine, all made by hand and completely edible. Not to mention the antiqued gold buckles holding it all together. Who knew leather belts would make for a fabulous cake design? Our friend Rachael Teufel, owner of Intricate Icings Cake Design in Erie, Colorado – that’s who! I’m telling you, you’re going to love this unique and naturally beautiful concept. And well, the details on these belts you’ll just have to see to believe…
Rachael of Intricate Icings gives us the scoop on this shoot:
“When I was first approached by Jill to create a cake for a Bohemian wedding shoot, I wasn’t so sure I was a good fit. I’m not really a leather and feathers kind of girl and was worried I wouldn’t be able to do justice to the theme. Once I saw the inspiration coming together, I was over the moon to be a part of this spectacular shoot. I decided to take the theme literally and create tiers wrapped with “Leather” belts created from modeling chocolate.”
Rachael of Intricate Icings shares more about her technique:
“I first textured a soft brown modeling chocolate and then antiqued the belts with varying shades of brown airbrush color to bring a more rustic feel to the leather. The buckles were hand painted gold and a single sugar feather adorns the top to pair with the real feather accents around the base of the cake. I never imagined belts could have such an elegant feel on a cake.”
Seriously, I just have to reiterate for emphasis (and for those of you who skimmed the write up too quickly). Those spectacular belts are edible! All crafted by hand from modeling chocolate. With their gorgeously embossed, molded and carved details – they make for one spectacular cake design!
A special thank you to Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings Cake Design for sharing her incredible Leather & Feathers creation with us today!

Interested in the middle 3 inch wide belt in the middle of the three tiered cake. How much for one that is 42″ with same design.
