Recipe: Marshmallow Snowflakes

December 16, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

Happy Monday!  It’s December 16th and Christmas is less than 10 days away.  I’m not sure why I felt the need to announce that… I know we all have calendars and can count.  But for real!  Christmas is less than 10 days away!!  Today, we’re jumping right back in to the holiday inspiration with a round up of creative projects that will have you ready for Christmas in no time flat.  From cookies and candy to crafts and entertaining, we’ve got you covered.  I’ve teamed up with a few of my friends to bring you a slew of new DIYs like THE most adorable stocking cookies and chocolate fudge that is sure to please.  But first we’ll start this festive little treat.  Snowflake Marshmallows dipped in chocolate and coated with chopped peppermint.

Homemade Chocolate Peppermint Snowflake Marshmallows

Homemade marshmallows are perfect for this time of year!  I started with a batch of Butter’s Famous Marshmallows because… they are delicious!  And there’s simply no reason to mess with perfection that is tried and true.  Then to add to the fun, I cut them into snowflakes and added a touch of chocolate and peppermint.  The end result is a little piece of marshmallow heaven.

Top a cup of steaming hot chocolate and watch it melt into a gooey topping that is out of this world delicious.  First you taste the sweet marshmallow and then comes the chocolate and peppermint.  Serve these to guests or individually package in treat bags for a homemade gift.

MARSHMALLOW SNOWFLAKES
a DIY by Carrie Sellman

STEP 1:  Make marshmallows following Butter’s Famous Marshmallow recipe.

STEP 2:  When marshmallows are firm, cut into snowflakes using a cookie cutter coated with cooking spray.

STEP 3:  Dip the bottom edge of each snowflake into a bowl of melted chocolate.  Let excess chocolate drip off and then dredge in chopped peppermints.  I used soft peppermints so they would easily melt into the hot chocolate.  Set on wax paper until cool and firm.

STEP 4:  Serve on top of hot chocolate and let it melt into a gooey chocolate peppermint heaven.  If needed, pop the entire mug into the microwave for a few seconds to really help the marshmallows melt.

And now let’s get to the good stuff!  The DIY’s I promised you way back in the beginning.  I’ve teamed up with some very talented ladies to bring you eight additional Christmas projects.  Click through to find the perfect way to bring a touch of creativity into your home this week.  Enjoy!
