Metallic Chevron Cake

January 13, 2014 by Carrie Sellman

We’re starting off the week with a new cake design that is over-the-top fabulous.  Graphic prints are everywhere from our clothes to our home decor and of course, our cakes.  We’ve been loving on bold patterns for years now but it seems as though sleek, modern cakes just keep getting better.  Today’s feature is a prime example of crisp lines and sharp angles meeting up at the corner of cake love and awesome!  It comes to us from Jessica Harris and sports her signature graphic style.  You probably remember Jessica from previous features like this incredible striped cake and this adorable baby shower design.  Jessica joins us again with an incredible new design in mint and dark grey, gold and silver.  With an offset chevron pattern and a modern mix of colors, this cake is beyond gorgeous.  Not to mention the minimalistic flower, so sleek and perfectly suited for this design.  It all comes together in this amazing Metallic Chevron Cake.

Jessica Harris gives us the scoop on her design:

“I get a lot of emails asking what kind of designs are good for men or how to design cakes for men.  Although I’m often not able to get back to each person with an answer, it’s got my brain stirring more and more and has me keeping my eyes out for fun, bold, masculine designs!

Chevron patterns are fun, but I’m seeing them in lots of places.  I wanted to use the idea of a chevron design because it can be done in a masculine way using the zig-zag look.  But, I decided to mix it up a bit and do something really unique and different.  I decided to use five colors and stack them in random ways and cut them in random thickness in order to create this stacked chevron design.  I did this by creating each vertical panel separately using my wax paper transfer method.  It makes it so easy to apply complex designs simply and beautifully!”

More from Jessica Harris :

“Because metallics are so hot, I decided to include a silver, gold and pearl stripe with my dark gray and mint colors.  There are unlimited ways you can build this pattern so it’ll be so fun for me to see how my students mix it up with their colors and their own design sense.”

Hello I am mesmerized by your work, and can not seem to stop looking at your cakes! I do have a question, what do you use to make your Chevron pattern? I have shopped for the cutter and just do not seem to find what I am looking for. What do you suggest?

    Thank You,

    Jessica
