Birds in Flight

July 12, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

Hello sweet little birdies.  Won’t you spread your wings fly my way?  Because you are just the loveliest little detail.  Nestled between gorgeous sugar orchids and delicate branches on the prettiest of hand-painted cakes.

Get ready for some Friday swooning because today’s feature is sure to make your heart soar.  It comes to us from Rachael Teufel, owner of Intricate Icings Cake Design in Erie, Colorado.  Once you take in the beauty of the hand-painted birds, you’re sure to notice the incredible bottom tier.  Wrapped in chocolate curls, tied with a petite green bow and topped with ruffles.  It will have you thinking two things.  What an elegant and creative spin on branches.  And… oh my goodness, how delicious!  Now that’s what I call the best of both worlds when it comes to cake.  Stunning and decadently tempting.  Let’s take a look at this Birds in Flight wedding cake.

Rachael of Intricate Icings gives us the scoop on her design:

“Our couple came to us with a couple of different cake designs and we decided to marry the two concepts together into this vintage wedding cake.  The bottom tier is wrapped in chocolate curls, tied with a sugar bow, and topped with ruffles.  There is even a cute superhero surprise for the groom tucked into the ruffles.  (It seemed to be a theme throughout the wedding.) The top two tiers feature a hand painted bird motif with a replica of the brides ‘bird in flight’ tattoo. We also created a cluster of sugar cymbidium orchids to cascade of the top edge.”

A big thank you to Rachael of Intricate Icings for sharing her fantastic Birds In Flight cake with us today.  It’s a spectacular design to wrap up the week and send us into the weekend.  Happy Friday!
