Navy & Gold Toile Cake

August 14, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

Today’s feature seriously makes me wonder…. how can one cake include so many amazing details?  First we start with a stellar color combo.  Classic navy and white with a dash of shimmering gold.  Then we move on to the stripes.  Beautifully bold, extra wide, statement-making stripes.  And then last but absolutely, positively, certainly not least, is the incredible toile pattern.  A sophisticated scene full of countryside charm, hand-painted to replicate this timeless French fabric.  It’s all enough to make you weak at the knees.  And it comes to us from Rachael Teufel, owner of Intricate Icings Cake Design in Erie, Colorado.  Let’s take a look at this Navy & Gold Toile Cake.

Rachael of Intricate Icings shares the inspiration behind this design:

“Sometimes it just takes a little inspiration to get our creative  juices flowing.  Our client had a French theme in mind and loved the idea of using toile, a fabric linen or “canvas” cloth for painting on.  We searched for a pattern that would be appropriate for a wedding and found this adorable little boy and girl swinging. We also used the stunning scroll pattern from their stationary pieces which included a little butterfly.”

Rachael of Intricate Icings gives us the scoop on her technique:

“The toile pattern was hand painted while the gold scroll work used a combination of piped and painted techniques.  Two tiny gumpaste butterflies and a fresh peony finished the look.”

Are you amazed?  I’m amazed!!  The level of detail in this design is completely over-the-top fabulous.  Some might even call it intricate (pun intended).  A big thank you to Rachael of Intricate Icings for sharing her incredible Navy & Gold Toile Cake with us today!

Beautiful cake. I love Toile. On a side note: Can you tell me what plugin you use for your sidebar advertising? I want mine to look neater.

So sorry I can’t be of more help. But I don’t use any plugins or widgets in the sidebar. It’s all custom coded (from way back in 2009… so it’s great to hear that it sill looks neat! Thank you!)

This is absolutely stunning, blue and white has to be one of my favorites and I’ve never seen a cake so gorgeous.
