Grey Ombre & Ruffles Cake

June 3, 2011 by Carrie Sellman

If you saw yesterday’s post, you know I am really loving the ombre fashion trend right now.  Especially how it has translated into the cake world!  We took a look at several charming gradient cakes but I thought I would save one for today.  It’s Friday after all.  We all need something lovely to help us dream away the day and whisk us right into the weekend!  Look no further than this stunning Grey Ombre and Ruffles Cake by Superfine Bakery.
Ombre & Ruffles Cake by Superfine Bakery

I told you, this cake is dreamy!  Grey. Ruffles. And Ombre!  What more could you want?!?  When I purchased my ombre tshirt from Banana last weekend…. I actually thought of this cake!  Yes, that is how much I think about cake.  I’m in the dressing room trying on a super cute shirt and I think of cake!  But when a design is this stunning, it stays with me.  It’s my happy place.

Here is a little of what Andrea from Superfine Bakery had to say about this design:
“The decision whether or not to use a black or white sugar peony on this cake was a tough one.  We were looking to show a little edginess in this shoot, the contrast between light and dark, and I decided to make the flower a little darker to contrast with the soft ruffle effect on the exterior.”

We’ve had the pleasure of featuring Andrea’s work in the past and are always impressed by her talent and sense of style.  I think she made the right decision to go with the black sugar peony!  What do you think?  You can see more of Andrea’s cake creations on the Superfine Bakery website and blog.

Happy Friday everyone!
