Ombre Cakes

June 2, 2011 by Carrie Sellman

Over the weekend my husband and I did a little shopping and I picked up the cutest ombre t-shirt from Banana.  I’m really loving the ombre trend right now.  I started thinking about all of the lovely gradient cakes I’ve seen lately.  So today we’re showcasing some our favorite ombre cakes!  Enjoy these stunning creations by Maggie Austin Cake, Whipped Bakeshop and Cake Coquette!
Ombre Cake by Maggie Austin

Love the purple. Love the ruffles. Love everything about this cake! But that’s not surprising…. I love Maggie Austin’s designs. She knows how to create simple yet sophisticated cakes with a modern touch.  The extra tall bottom tier covered in ruffles creates such a dramatic effect.

Ombre Cake by Whipped Bake Shop

This purple ombre cake by Whipped Bakeshop combines several of my favorite trends.  I love seeing traditional icing make a comeback in these popular ‘rustic’ designs.  So many people love the way fondant looks but prefer the taste of a delicious buttercream or cream cheese frosting.  With this design, you get it all.  Delicious icing AND a sleek modern appearance.  Plus, yay for the ombre!  Serious time involved to create this gradient effect.

Ombre cake in pink by Cake Coquette

Last but certainly not least is this stunning creation by Cake Coquette.  This pink ombre design made its way onto a full page of Bride’s Magazine and has inspired numerous replications.  It’s easy to see why.  It’s soft and romantic without being too fussy.  Absolutely lovely!  {photography by Janae Shields}

Are you loving this trend as much as I am?  Tomorrow we’ll take a look at yet another gorgeous ombre cake.  Until then, enjoy these beauties!  And be sure to enter our current giveaway to win $100 worth of fondant cupcake and cake toppers from Edible Details!

    Love these 3 cakes! I recently just pinned two of them the purple and pink ones on Pinterest! I would love to learn how to decorate using these techniques! And I never knew there was such a term as ombre for the gradient look! So cool, thanks for filling me in on the technical cake term! Have a great weekend!
