Olivia Bogacki | Contributing Writer for TheCakeBlog.com

Olivia has had a love for baking and cakes for as long as she can remember. She has fond memories of homemade birthday cakes and trying new recipes in Home Economics classes. But it wasn’t until 2009 that she decided to pursue this passion and attend cake decorating classes. She launched Liv for Cake in 2010 as a way to chronicle her journey into the world of cakes. In 2011, she took a break from baking and blogging to travel and experience new cultures. In the spring of 2014 the baking itch came back, and it was so strong this time that Olivia decided to leave her job and attend Pastry School at Northwest Culinary Academy, where she graduated at the top of her class. It was during her time in Pastry School that she revitalized her blog, and officially re-launched Liv for Cake in January of 2015 once she had completed the pastry program.

Her professional background couldn’t be further from the Cake world. She spent 15 years in the Video Game industry, first as a game tester, then Development Director at Electronic Arts Canada, and finally as an Instructor at Vancouver Film School in the Game Design program.

Olivia still has a passion for video games that goes back to her childhood years. She also loves almost anything to do with the 80’s, Disney, and Harry Potter. In her free time she loves to travel, and is always thinking of her next destination.

Olivia was born in Poland, grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, and has called Vancouver, BC home for the past 20 years. She currently lives in Port Moody, BC with her husband, Ryan, who helps inspire her creative ideas.

Olivia’s work has been featured on Better Homes and Gardens, The Food Network, Huffington Post, and in Sweet Dreams Magazine.

Olivia Bogacki also blogs at Liv for Cake.

Chocolate Orange CakeChocolate Orange Cake - a citrus layer cake recipe infused with orange zest and orange syrup, topped with silky chocolate frosting and candied orange slices. By our contributor, Olivia Bogacki... Happy New Year everyone! You’ve survived through the first bit of January, what I consider to be the most challenging time of the year. Coming off a holiday high and getting back to the real world is not fun and I, for one, am having a hard time letting go of the holiday season. Nevertheless, it’s time to move on from gingerbread, peppermint, and eggnog, and take advantage of the delicious citrus fruits that are now in season.

A new layer cake recipe by our contributor, Olivia Bogacki... It’s official, we are in Holiday season! And I am 100% in holiday mode. I am totally one of those people who is happy to see holiday stuff out in October (don’t judge). I’m doing my best not to jump head first into holiday baking and throw peppermint and gingerbread at you while you’ve still got Halloween candy wrappers laying around. I will restrain myself… for a little while, anyhow.

Apple Pie Cake! A layer cake recipe with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, fresh apple pie filling, buttercream frosting and braided pie crust lattice. Created by our contributor, Olivia Bogacki.... Anyone else love fall as much as I do? It’s the best season ever. I seriously cannot wait! My husband thinks I’m crazy because I actually don’t like summer. At all. If I’m away on vacation and somewhere tropical, I like it to be sunny and hot, but otherwise I’ll take my overcast days and mild temps thankyouverymuch.

Creme Brûlée CakeOur contributor, Olivia Bogacki, is sharing a creme brûlée inspired layer cake recipe! Vanilla bean cake, vanilla custard, and crunchy bits of caramel, all covered in a silky vanilla buttercream and decorated with caramel sugar shards... I’ve only made crème brûlée once in my life. It was in pastry school, and I remember the process being a bit finicky. It wasn’t exactly difficult to make, but I’m turned off by anything that you need to bake in a water bath. I vaguely remember there being a small window of time where the crème brûlée was either underdone or overdone, but you’re also not supposed to open the oven too often to check it. Stressful!! This is based on my one experience, mind you, so perhaps it’s actually easier than I remember.

Key Lime Pie CakeOur contributor, Olivia Bogacki, is sharing a new cake recipe today... It’s officially May, which means we’re that much closer to summer weather, summer dresses, and summer desserts. One of my favourite summer desserts (but really any season) is Key Lime Pie, which is a rather bold statement for a cake baker. In fact, I will almost always opt for key lime pie over cake if it’s on a dessert menu. Shocking, I know. I honestly scan dessert menus to see if it’s on there and am a little disappointed when it’s not. In light of that, I figured why not make my favourite dessert INTO a cake. And just like that, the Key Lime Pie Cake was born.
