When you’re expecting a new addition to the family, there’s nothing quite like the moment you find out the gender of your little one. Will there be pink tutus or snakes and snails in your future? The days of waiting until the actual birth to find out the sex of your baby are long gone. Most couples choose to find out ahead of time and many plan fun ways to share their big news with friends and family! I’m loving all of the creative gender reveal ideas and parties we’ve been seeing lately and this one absolutely takes the cake! Literally! Well, I guess technically it is a cupcake, but you get the idea. We’re definitely inspired by these clever Gender Reveal Cupcakes, created by Cream & Flutter.
Trisha Sutton, co-owner of Cream & Flutter and proud mom-to-be, gives us the scoop:
“Around here, when there’s something to celebrate, we turn to cake. Our family and friends have been “patiently” waiting to find out the gender of Baby Sutton. I am currently 24 weeks pregnant and we finally got the news. To make the big surprise even more delicious, I decided to hand out gender reveal cupcakes! So I whipped up a batch of dark chocolate cupcakes, filled them with the appropriate color of vanilla bean cream filling, topped them with a layer of rich chocolate ganache, and finished them off with a charming (and mysterious!) little question mark.”
How adorable, right? Just think of how delighted your friends and family would be… they get to share in your exciting news AND enjoy a cupcake! How could that get any better?
A very special thank you to Trisha and Amanda from Cream & Flutter for sharing their ingenious Gender Reveal Cupcakes with us today! Best wishes and congrats to Trisha on her new little man. I have a feeling he’s going to be quite the baker!

This is a fantastic idea. I’m going to have to coax someone into getting pregnant just so i can make them.
I did this for all 3 of my little ones in the last 11 years. It is so much fun to see everyone dig into a cupcake! Congrats to the parents to be!
I LOVE the idea…but how do you get the filling(frosting) in the inside??? Does that bake with the cupcake, or is it injected afterwards?
Carrie Sellman says
Christy – you would use a pastry bag to inject the filling, after the cupcake is already baked. Or you can try a product like this Cupcake Corer to make things easier.
How did you get the frosting in the middle?? and what kind of frosting did you use for the middle? I’ve tried so many different ways but nothing seems to look as cute as this 🙁 help!
Carrie Sellman says
Kelly – I would suggest using a buttercream for your filling. Just use a pastry bag to inject the filling, after the cupcake is already baked. Or you can try a product like the Cupcake Corer to make things easier.
These look amazing! I will be doing the same thing to reveal my little one’s gender next month! Just a few questions- Where can I buy a bakery bag? For a buttercream filling, would I just use food coloring to get the desired color? How did you get the icing on top to look so slick?? Any tips on different ways to do the icing on top to make it look nice? Help! Thanks!
Also, do I need to buy bakery tips to put in the bag at the corner? I’ve seen this done on youtube but I’ve heard they aren’t necessary. I’m wondering how you get the bag to puncture the cupcake. What do you suggest for beginners to get the filling inside? Lol. Sorry for all the questions!
I have a friend who revealed to her family the gender of her 5th child, as the 1st was boy and the next 3 were girls!! and to make the line up complete, it’s a BOY!! GREAT IDEA!!
