Owl & Blocks Baby Shower Cake

June 19, 2012 by Carrie Sellman

Who-who’s the cutest cake on the block?!?  Today’s featured cake design comes to us from talented cake artist, Isabelle at The Designer Cake Company, located in the North East of England.  This gorgeous baby shower cake is both perfectly polished and playful at the same time.  With soft baby blues, pale greens and a charming owl topper sure to steal your heart.  One look at his big round eyes and little dotted belly will have you smitten too!  Remarkably crisp baby blocks showcase both letters and perfectly square edges, creating a tailored way to include the baby’s name!  Let’s take a look at today’s Owl & Blocks Baby Shower Cake!

Owl & Blocks : Baby Shower Cake

Isabelle of The Designer Cake Company shares a few thoughts about her inspiration:

“In terms of inspiration, owls seem to be a really popular theme for baby cakes at the moment.  So I looked at a number of party invitations for inspiration and came up with this little guy.  I have made one of these owls before for a little girl using feminine colours and flowers and I love how they look equally cute for both girls and boys.  These owls are really simple to make and I use very basic cutters and techniques but they are so satisfying because you can watch the owl come to life as you make it… and by the end of the process, it’s hard to part with them!”

Those baby blocks could not be more adorable!  Made of fondant, they are so perfectly square and neat!  Now, let’s get a better look at the charming little owl, shall we?

Owl & Blocks : Baby Shower Cake

This little guy is such a cutie!  And if you’re wondering how Isabelle got her blocks so perfectly square, there’s good news!  Isabelle has written a step-by-step illustrated tutorial on how to make both the owl and the building blocks!  It will be featured on the new SugarEd Productions website, launching later this year.  We’ll be sure to remind you when it is available!

A special thank you to Isabelle of The Designer Cake Company for sharing her perfectly polished Owl & Blocks Baby Shower Cake with us today!  It is incredible!
