Teal & White Succulent Cake

June 26, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

Today’s featured cake is all about vibrant white and clean, fresh details.  It’s a refreshing spin on succulents that has us feeling downright cheery.  Delicate lace scallops add incredible detail to the top and bottom tiers, not to mention a touch of white-on-white charm.  While teal stripes add an unexpected but highly appreciated pop of color on the side.  Add in some gorgeous succulents, rose buds and frilly blooms and you have one gorgeous cake.  Let’s enjoy this splendid serving of wedding cake inspiration, created by Nic of Sweet Love Cake Couture.

Nic of Sweet Love Cake Couture gives us the scoop on her design:

“I designed this cake as part of my Spring 2013 collection.  With an increasing trend towards the inclusion of succulents in wedding styling and bouquets, I wanted to create a cake which incorporated the popular echeveria but still maintained a touch of femininity.  Based on traditional wedding white, the bursts of teal were incorporated to highlight certain elements, resulting in a clean, crisp finish.  I love that the angular and feminine elements fuse together so perfectly – a case of opposites attract.  The pointed tips in the echeveria, the square form of the cake and vertical stripes combine beautifully with some ruffles in the flowers and white-on-white lace detail.”

Nic of Sweet Love Cake Couture dishes on her technique:

“I handcrafted the succulent, flowers and berries from sugar, incorporating rose buds and stylised, frilly ranunculus.  The lace detailing was achieved using Sugarveil.”
