Pink Week: Gold & Pink

October 24, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re going pink all week long.  To remember, honor and support all of those who’s lives have been touched by breast cancer.  Today is day four of our pink journey!  (If you missed any of the prior days, you can catch up here).

Today’s featured cake has some seriously glam going on.  It’s golden from top to bottom with details galore and gorgeous pops of pink.  This is definitely a statement-making cake with four tiers of fabulous.  Studded quilting adds layers of texture while white scrollwork adds to the intricacy.  Golden leaves and shimmering bows dazzle us while a little surprise awaits for the groom on the backside.  Just wait, you’ll see.  And then there’s the flowers.  These lush blooms of pink are the finishing touch on this dreamy design, created by Rick Reichart, owner of cakelava, in Oahu, Hawaii.  Let’s take a look!

Sasha of cakelava gives us the scoop on this design:

“Chelsea and James’ wedding took place at the MODERN Honolulu, a boutique hotel in Waikiki overlooking the ocean.  For their wedding cake, Rick drew inspiration from several design elements in the wedding.

The bride’s dress had a floral lace design, which was piped onto two of the tiers.  The color gold was prominently used throughout the wedding with accents of bright pink and white.  Rick spent many hours making the delicate pink handcrafted flowers and they made the cake POP!  Two seashells were added to the bows on the front of the tiers, to tie in the “tropical beach chic” theme.  The cake was built tall – 3 feet – for a dramatic look, and there was plenty of bling, including the rhinestone studded cake stand, gold centers on the flowers, and on the quilting.”

More from Sasha of cakelava:

“The cake was 4 flavors inside: Totally Turtle, Kona Toffee Crunch, Hawaii Five-O, and Lemon Pucker.  As a surprise from the bride to the groom, a small Spiderman figure crawling out from the cake was discreetly placed on the backside.”

Wow, that is just stunning. Sometimes a gold cake can be too much, but this is so perfectly balanced and the brush embroidery lends a delicate feel.
