Over the years, we’ve featured numerous owl cakes. Because, really, whooo doesn’t love a cute little owl cake with big smiling eyes? Around here, owl cakes always give us something to hoot about! (Okay, I promise to tone down all of the owl-related puns, it’s just hard to resist.) Well today’s owl cake is perfectly suited for 2014. With a black and gold color scheme and a modern mix of bold prints, this is not your traditional owl cake. Gold and white stripes are paired with a playful geometric pattern while a flag banner reads “Sweetest Thing”. A burst of color is added with a rainbow of beads and a handful of buttons. And then there is the star of the cake himself… the most adorable owl topper sporting a teeny-tiny, glittering, top hat. It all comes to us from Sharon Ho, owner of Bloom Cake Co. located in Toronto, Canada. Let’s take a look!
Sharon Ho of Bloom Cake Co. gives us the scoop on her cake:
“The client threw an extravagant 1st birthday brunch at the Toronto Ritz Carlton and needed a cake and desserts to match. She liked the idea of bold, graphic patterns with accents of gold. Seeing that triangles, polka dots and stripes were part of the decor theme, I used each of those patterns as the design for each tier.”
More from Sharon Ho of Bloom Cake Co.:
“I made multi-colored fondant balls and buttons for the top tier to create some dimension and texture since everything else is 2D. And also a chic owl topper as requested. I added a personal touch to the owl with a little top hat since the birthday girl was wearing one just like that for the party. Another detail is the tuxedo shirt detail in the back of the bottom tier. There were also matching cupcakes with lovely little gold paper cup liners.”
Oh my goodness, this cake is beyond fabulous! There so many incredible details, especially the owl with his glittering top hat . This little charmer has stolen my heart!
A big thank you to Sharon Ho of Bloom Cake Co. for inspiring us with her amazing owl cake today. If you’re loving this design, you should also check out Sharon’s Hello Kitty Cake that we featured last week. It’s equally as awesome, another top hat included!
