Today’s feature just might be too cute for words. We’re stepping back in time to a retro style kitchen, filled with freshly baked desserts and cheery dose of suburbia. A frilly-apron-clad housewife is whipping up her best batch of cookies and offering you one straight from the oven. It’s a little scene of domestic bliss, with a 3D cake as the centerpiece. It comes to us from Jacki Fanto, owner of Blissfully Sweet Cakes located in Sydney, Australia. Created for a kitchen tea, this display would also be adorable for a bridal shower or even a baking themed birthday party. Let’s enjoy this Stepford Wives Dessert Table!
Jacki of Blissfully Sweet shares the inspiration behind this dessert table:
“This cake and table has been inside my head for over 6 months now. Dragana from One Love Photography asked me make a table and cake for my sister-in-law’s upcoming kitchen tea. We had discussed a few ideas, but we finally decided on retro, colourful and Stepford Wives type of style. You know the kind of cookie cutter type of wife that we all somehow aspire to (or is that just me??!).
The table was then up to me to design. Immediately in my head I wanted the table to look like those retro kitchen bench tops, with the 2 tiered lace curtains and black/white laminated floors etc. The step at the back I made from sheets of finished pine. This suited my bench theme and gave the table some height. I used laminated checkered tiles for the surface and an old piece of lace was sewn into the double strung lace curtains. Everything else was kitchen inspired also.”
More from Jacki of Blissfully Sweet :
“The desserts were left to a small selection. Cookies designed around cookie cutters, cupcakes with kitchen utensils, little layered petite cakes with royal icing drizzle as well as a white chocolate honeycomb mousse that looked like cake batter.”
Jacki of Blissfully Sweet tells us about the cake:
“The centerpiece was of course the cake and I wanted it to look like HER kitchen! She was a lot of fun to make and I got the inspiration from a Carlos Lischetti cake topper. As soon as I saw this retro housewife topper, I knew I wanted to design her as a fully structured cake.”
