Black & Ivory Ruffle Cake

March 25, 2013 by Carrie Sellman

Happy Monday!  We’re kicking off the week with a cake that is nothing short of dreamy.  There’s something so sophisticated and refined about a classic color combination like black and ivory.  So when you add in a touch of shimmering gold and an abundance of flowing ruffles, you’ve got sweet perfection.  Inspired by a wedding dress, today’s cake is ready to waltz down the aisle.  You’re seriously going to love this one!  I mean, LOVE!  With its rows upon rows of scalloped ruffles, elegant black sash and antique brooch… it is just too fabulous.  Join me in swooning over another gorgeous creation by Erin Gardner, owner of Wild Orchid Baking Company in Dover, NH.

Erin of Wild Orchid Baking Company gives us the scoop on her design:

“This cake is definitely wedding dress inspired from top to bottom – or head to toe!  The cake is 4 square tiers with the top two covered in smooth ivory fondant, and the bottom two tiers covered in hand cut ruffles.”

Erin of Wild Orchid Baking Company shares her techniques:

“The ruffles were made by cutting circles out of fondant, then cutting the circles in half. I then gathered the circle along the straight edge to create one ruffle. The top of the cake is finished with a black fondant sash and bow. At the center of the bow is a tiny ruffled fondant brooch. The edges of the brooch and the top tier of ruffles are brushed with a little bit of gold for a touch of shimmer.”

Oh my goodness, are you loving this or what?  This cake is so crazy gorgeous….  I’m not sure if I want to eat it or wear it!  The little touches of gold add just the right amount of gleam.  And the two tiers of ruffled swags are enough to make a girl giddy.  Simply incredible!

A special thank you to Erin at Wild Orchid Baking Company for sharing her stunning Black & Ivory Ruffle Cake with us today.  It’s a fabulous start to our new week!

This is so beautiful – the ruffles look real, rather than being made of fondant! Such a clever cake!
