2015 Wedding Cake Trends : Metallics + Color

January 22, 2015 by Carrie Sellman

It’s day eight of our brand new cake series – The 2015 Wedding Cake Preview!  We’re spending two weeks oohing and aahing over marvelous cake designs and getting the scoop on 2015 cake trends from the ladies who know.  Top cake designers were asked to predict which cake trends will be hot in 2015.  Based on their insights, this talented group got busy creating innovative new cakes, exclusively for this cake series and especially for you!  I hope you’ll join us as we debut a new trend-inspired design each day.  At any point, you can catch up with the entire cake series HERE.

We’re moving on to cake number eight!  Our eighth design is all about pairing metallics with color!  Gold, silver and metallic tones were everywhere in 2014 and will continue to dominate in 2015.  This year, we’re expecting to see the brilliance of metallics used to complement a wide range of color.  Yes, color!  We’ve seen many great hues so far in this cake series, from pale blues and vibrant pinks to deep, rich gem tones.  While blushes and neutrals have ruled the scene lately, this may be the year that color makes a break for it!  Especially when it looks as lovely as today’s lilac and pewter design.

The eighth cake in our series comes to us from Sherri Meyers and her team at The Pastry Studio in Daytona Beach, FL.  Sherri has an elegant style that is refined, feminine and uniquely hers.  Her meticulous attention to detail is what makes her gorgeous cakes over the top amazing – oh how we adored her golden pear cake back in 2012.  Sherri was ahead of the curve with that one, with all of it’s golden shimmer and confetti-like details.  Her impeccably clean work was evident in this black & white with emerald design and in this ruffled ribbon cake.  And we can’t forget this delicate pink ombre cake from 2012.  We’ve been a fan of The Pastry Studio for over 10 years now and today’s cake will show you exactly why!

Today Sherri is pairing a lovely shade of lilac with incredible hand-painted pewter details.  Embossed bands encircle two tiers while ornate scrolls, delicate swiss dots and a ring of leaves shimmer with pewter.  A delicate bow, complete with a textured cord and hanging tassels, gives this cake just the right amount of WOW.  And let’s not forget that statement-making sugar blossom which crowns the very top.  It all comes together in a luxurious design that’s a feast for the eyes and a radiant example of metallics and color.

Sherri Meyers of The Pastry Studio shares the inspiration for her design:

“We are predicting color for 2015 – soft lush color and lots of metallics.  For this design we went with a lovely lilac shade and metallic pewter.  I also love the tassels that are showing up in fashion and I wanted to incorporate that in this design.  We love fine detail and my brides look for the special touches with each cake we make.”

That is sure to fit in my wedding. I have pink and metallic colors as motif for my fairytale theme wedding. Haha. I just wish that my One Heart Wedding Planners could find a similar design for me. =)

Please help me find out what was used to make the gold foil looking leaves and branches on a cake made by Layers Cake Company in Bountiful, Utah. It is on Pinterest and the ruffled blog under the heading of Hand Crafted Wedding at Trolley Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
My daughter fell in love with this cake and would like to duplicate it for her wedding in August. Any help any of you can give me will be most appreciated.
